Step #2: Growing THCA Flower

Growing high-THCA flower means a legal product that has the same chemical composition as weed, yet because it’s hemp, it’s legal.  So, how is it done?  It’s all about controlling the growing conditions during the cultivation process.  Small amounts of THCA can oxidize while the plant is growing, either due to heat exposure (high temperatures in the environment) or age (as the plant gets older, the compounds in the plant naturally oxidize).  This means that naturally, high-THCA flower can develop more than 0.3% delta 9 THC in its raw form unless certain conditions are controlled.  Therefore, cultivators make a point to keep the ambient temperature low during the growing process to avoid oxidization.

Step #3: Picking Hemp Flower Buds at the Right Time 

Now it’s time to pick the buds at just the right time.  With THCA flower, that’s even more important, because another factor that can cause THCA to oxidize into delta 9 THC, possibly beyond the legal limit, is age.  So, usually, THCA flower buds are cut off of their stems a bit earlier than other hemp flower products.  Simultaneously, the plant needs to be mature enough that the trichomes on the buds have developed, for maximum cannabinoid and terpene concentration, and a great flavor.
