However, some parts of Georgia have decriminalized small possession amounts.  As of 2016, 11 cities and counties have gone ahead and reduced penalties for small amounts of possession, and at the same time, some lawmakers are working to decriminalize possession statewide, meaning no jailtime if a person is caught with half an ounce or less.
