THCA flower refers to the raw hemp flower buds of the hemp plant which are high in THCA.  They come from industrial that’s cultivated by farmers who know the steps involved in growing hemp that yields high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinolic acid.  THCA is the raw form of delta 9 that’s found in cannabis, and when THCA reaches a specific temperature, it converts into delta 9.  Because of how THCA flower is grown, it’s practically identical to weed in terms of its chemical composition.

Where Does High THCA Flower Come from?

Making THCA flower is pretty different from making other flower products.  Basically, unlike, say, delta 8 flower or HHC flower, this flower gets its dominant cannabinoid through the growing process rather than an infusion process, like we see with other types of flower.  In other words, THCA flower is not infused with THCA distillate.  Overall, the steps to making it require more effort and expertise, and because of that, only experienced and super knowledgeable hemp farmers are able to pull it off.

So, what is the actual process of making THCA flower?  Of course, it starts with industrial hemp, which is ideally grown organically and in the USA, to ensure that it meets strict domestic standards.  Now, whereas hemp is grown under much more lax conditions, THCA flower requires more finesse.

Basically, this is done by controlling the environmental conditions throughout the entire growing period.  As the hemp plant oxidizes due to heat exposure, some of the THCA does eventually become delta 9 THC, which can be detected in even raw flower.  So, temperatures are kept below-average during the growing season, to minimize oxidization, which almost guarantees that hemp flower contains high levels of THCA, but within the legal limit of delta 9 THC.  

And, the work doesn’t stop there.  When harvesting hemp flower buds, farmers must be keenly aware of exactly when to pick buds from the hemp plant, to ensure that the desirable compounds have properly developed within the flowering buds.  But, with THCA flower, farmers have to be extra mindful of when to go about harvesting.  Basically, THCA flower buds must be cut from the plant earlier than other forms of flower, as again, this minimizes the risk of THCA oxidizing and turning into delta 9 THC, as oxidization also happens are a result of aging.  

Once the flower buds have been harvested, it’s time to preserve them using a method known as dry-curing, in which the buds are stored in a dark, cool and dry place for a specific period of time, until they are cured, preventing the growth of mold from destroying them prematurely.

What this means is that THCA flower sold in most stores is high-THCA flower, grown using the methods above.  But, keep in mind that cheaper companies may use an infusion process, which usually involves spraying, since this is cheaper and less time-consuming.  Ultimately, it’s clear that making high-THCA flower through specific cultivation practices is going to give you a higher-quality product.
